Ringo announced today that the 10th All Starr-studded ensemble will include
returning All Starrs (in alphabetical order): Colin Hay, Billy Squier,
Hamish Stuart, Edgar Winter, and first timer Gary Wright and on drums, Gregg
Bissonette.

The bannister in the home was featured on the cover of one of the Beatles

- Selected outlets are selling a three-disc DVD set of "Across the
Universe." The third disc includes a special feature called "Faces and
Places" that goes back to some of the locations used in the film.

- Yoko Ono has issued a statement explaining the legal action by her against
Lennon Murphy. Her statement says the problem was not the trademark, but the
fact that Lennon Murphy asked for exclusive rights to the name. We'll have

The latest Paul-Heather update from Abbeyrd's Beatles Page 1:50 p.m. ET Wednesday

Here's the latest: The Daily Mail reported Paul and Heather, who both
emerged from court smiling Tuesday (as opposed to Monday when they weren't)
are "edging" toward a record settlement that could be finalized this week.
The settlement is said to be based on Heather's contention that the public
animosity against her has made it impossible for her to get a job. She will
be caring for daughter Beatrice, but Paul will have equal visitation rights.
The Mail says he has also agreed to pay for round-the clock security for the
pair and Heather's legal bills. More importantly, his property will not be
touched.

Beatle news late updates for Tuesday 2/12/08

1) Several people have asked us about "It's Love," the track the New York
Daily News is giving away. Sources tell us it's a track that was recorded
during the sessions for "Liverpool 8" and isn't scheduled for any other
release at this time.

2) Julian Lennon has expressed his support for Lennon Murphy, the musician
we told you about two days ago (before it hit the news media) being sued by
Yoko Ono for using the trademark "Lennon."

3) Mike Love of the Beach Boys has issued a statement about the Maharishi's
death. It says, in part, "
"To say that what I have learned from Maharishi has been of great benefit
to me is an understatement to be sure. Maharishi has designed a pathway of
development of human potential, which includes transcendental mediation, the
TM-Sidhi program, Maharishi Ayurveda, Jyotish, and Yagyas -- all derived
directly from the Earth's most ancient text, The Vedas.

No less a goal than that of world peace was Maharishi's life's work. For
those of us who were fortunate enough to have been in his presence, his
passing is profoundly sad. But I for one, am among the millions who are
grateful for what he shared with us on this, "The Dawn of the Age of
Enlightenment" on the way to the goal which Maharishi called "Heaven on
Earth." We will miss you, but your great light will shine on."

Tabloid says Paul slapped fotog

People.co.uk has a story and picture showing what appears to be Paul striking a paparazzi. The article quotes Paul as saying the photog provoked it, while the photog says he said nothing.

Paul and Heather's final showdown

Paul and Heather arrived at High Court this morning for the final rounds in their well-publicized divorce case. The Daily Mail reported Heather arrived first with a film crew and an entourage of eight. The UK Mirror reported she phoned Paul several times over the weekend over recent stories that she had been sleeping with other men while dating Paul, but Paul refused to discuss the case and said, "I'll see you in court."

Breaking news: Grammy Award Beatle winners list as of 8:30 p.m. ET Sunday -- CONTAINS SPOILERS!

According to the Grammy Awards page, the Beatles won the Grammy for Best Surround Album for "Love." Paul was completely shut out of his three nominations, losing Best Solo Rock Vocal Performance to Bruce Springsteen, Best Male Rock Vocal to Justin Timberlake and Best Pop Vocal Album to Amy Winehouse. "Icky Thrump" by the White Stripes beat out both U2's "Instant Karma" and Green Day's "Working Class Hero" in the Best Rock Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocals. They're coming to take us away, ha ha?

Are you afraid? Maybe you should be. Some "scientists" think that this week's outer space transmission of the Beatles song "Across the Universe" might get some of those little green men out in space mad enough to where they might invade us.
No, I'm not making this up. It's right here.
In fact, we'll reprint part of it.

Fears that malevolent aliens will tune into this week's broadcast of The Beatles' song "Across the Universe" have been voiced by scientists.

NASA started to beam the song towards the North Star, 431 light years from Earth at midnight GMT on Monday, drawing congratulations from former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney and John Lennon's widow, Yoko Ono, who mused that it marked "the beginning of the new age in which we will communicate with billions of planets across the universe."

But today's New Scientist asks whether such signals could expose us to the risk of attack from mean spirited aliens.

Scientists considered this question at the "Sound of Silence" meeting at Arizona State University in Tempe this week.

With a little help ...

This was one tough week for our boy Ringo Starr. First, the home folks in Liverpool get mad at him for a comment that, in retrospect, was probably more jocular than anything else. But when you've got people who want to be remembered by one of their own who left the nest, you get some reaction when people feel they aren't appreciated. A lesson learned for Ringo, we're sure.

Gee whiz, the guy just dedicated his album to the city, practically. But, at the same time, Liverpool was different when Ringo was there and he's moved on. Liverpool is loved by people all over the world because of Ringo and his three famous friends. Like family feuds often do, this one will end sooner rather than later. There's too much history here between the two parties. Remember, folks, all you need is love.

As for the Regis Philbin dustup, that was a stupid move on the part of producer Michael Gelman, who really should know better. You don't treat someone like Ringo Starr like you treat Cindy Starlet from some half-baked network sitcom. We're wondering why Regis didn't run interference here? In the end, though, Ringo came out smelling like a rose and that Gelman guy came out looking like one of those little piggies crawling in the dirt.

If you're one of those folks trying to get Ringo's name in the papers, you did better than you expected.

On the other hand, though, did you notice how the Paul McCartney divorce case has vanished from the gossip pages, at least for the moment? You think Paul's enjoying the moment's rest?

The Ringo-Regis incident

The full story is out. Ringo walked off a scheduled appearance on "Live With Regis and Kelly" because
of what the Associated Press called a miscommunication between his publicist, Elizabeth Freund, and the show's musical director on the length of the song he was to perform. The show said it had to be 2 1/2 minutes or less, Freund told The Associated Press.

The AP reported Freund said Starr tried to cut about a minute of the song's 4 minute, 15 second length down to 3 minutes and 30 seconds, but it wasn't enough.

"We offered to cut back our chat time and asked them to fade or go to commercial. They were not willing to do that and Ringo was not willing to cut it further, so without a compromise we were not able to stay," Freund said in a statement to The Associated Press. "Ringo left saying, 'God bless and goodbye. We still love Regis.' "

A spokeswoman for "Regis and Kelly" told the AP the show's producers tried to work with Starr, noting his appearance had been booked since November and the time requirement for the song -- the show's standard -- had been expressed numerous times.

Gee, this trip hasn't gone the best for Ringo, has it? And isn't it Paul who usually gets the negative press?

In a followup note, Barbara Pazmino says Ringo walked because the producer wouldn't let Ringo do an entire song. She says you can call Regis' viewer voicemail and leave a message at 1-212-456-7777. Ask for viewer voice mail for Regis. Even though an auto voice says mailbox not available, it is and another voice comes on right away to say leave messsage after the beep. (Thanks again, Barbara!)

Did Ringo walk off of Regis' show?

We've just heard it's being reported on the radio that Ringo may have walked off his scheduled appearance today on "Live With Regis and Kelly" over a disagreement with producer Michael Gelman . No word yet on exactly what, if anything, happened. He was not listed as a guest for today's show on their website. As I recall, we had checked this last week before we posted our listing on it, so it was there at one point. (Thanks to Barbara Pazmino.)
