Mark Lewisohn writing new Beatle book

Mark Lewisohn has confirmed for us that he is working on a multi-volume Beatle biography. "Yes, this project is happening," he told us in an email. "It has evolved from my original plan to
write an entire biography on 1963 alone."

"This is an exacting task which will occupy me for many years to come, but I
am tremendously excited by the challenge."

"Web reports that Crown Books have signed up the US rights are correct, as is
the stated structure of the project (1940-63, 64-67, 68-Now). I believe
Crown will be issuing some kind of press statement to the trade this coming
week. Time Warner has the UK rights."

A Gerry update ...

Several people have asked us for updates on Gerry's condition. Frankly, there hasn't been a lot to say, but here's an excerpt of the latest update my sister, Gina, sent out to family and others via email:

After an evaluation on Tuesday from the hospital in Corona, it was decided that although Gerry was able to qualify for a move to Corona, his needs would better be served by Kindred Hospital in West Covina. Lori (Gerry's wife) then spent much of the day negotiating with the insurance company and the hospital to allow Gerry to be moved to Kindred's Ontario facility instead, which is closer to home. The closer he is to home, the more time family will be able to be with him, which is essential to Gerry's progress. Tuesday night, Gerry was moved to the ICU at Kindred Hospital in Ontario (address 550 N. Monterey Ave. Ontario, CA 91764). We thank God for this answer to prayer! Although this facility is about twice as far as the Riverside hospital, we are so grateful not to have to go as far as L.A., and it is where he needs to be right now. Kindred is a rehabilitation hospital with step down units and special doctors and specialists to offer the care that he needs like follow up care for his facial reconstruction surgery and dislocated shoulder, etc. They also have rehab specialists who will work with him on coma arousal therapy where they will try to stimulate his five senses. ... We've met and talked to his new doctors, nurses and therapists, and are very encouraged by their commitment and care. We heard again today that it is the norm for an injury like Gerry's to take a long time for rehabilitation, and that it rarely happens like in the movies where a person wakes up fully recovered.

We continue to see baby steps of improvement. Gerry's eyes continue to open and blink at different times. It is the times when his eyes will actually connect with one of us that are considered the very short periods of alert times that we need to grab onto and work with him with the simple commands I mentioned earlier. His facial movements have increased greatly. And, in the past couple of days, Gerry moved his feet when we scratched or tickled them with our nails!

Lori said it seems that Gerry may stay in this hospital for a couple of months or so, and then may be moved to the Corona hospital. Of course, things can change from day to day, so we continue to pray and ask your prayers also for the quality of care that Gerry is receiving at this new hospital and prayers for his care givers as well. Also prayers for guidance for all the decisions that Lori needs to face currently regarding Gerry's day to day care and in the future.

Maybe it pays to hang around Lake Tahoe: Paul McCartney gave his second impromptu performance at a Lake Tahoe restaurant Monday night -- the same place he did it in February, 2003, reports AP. He told patrons at Moody's Bistro and Lounge in the old Truckee Hotel he was an "unscheduled guest." About 70 people heard the performance, which included "Don't Get Around Much Anymore" with the George Souza Trio and "Tahoe City" -- the song "Kansas City" with the lyrics altered.

McCartney’s NEW “04 Summer� Stadium Tour Gets Macca Here, There And Somewhere’s He’s Never Been

The wait for summer is over and so is the wait for the legions of PAUL McCARTNEY fans whose cities have NEVER played host to a night of history Macca-style. Set to kick-off on Tuesday, May 25th at Gijon’s El Molinon Stadium, Macca’s NEW, 13-city “04 Summer Tour� will be highlighted with 7 first-time performance visits as well as 5 concerts in cities that haven’t rocked with him since 1989’s “Get Back World Tour� or 1993’s “New World Tour�.

“Touring really has been a lot of fun for us and the audiences have been great,� said McCartney. “So why stop now? I’m looking forward to playing and to visiting some new places.�

The all-stadium “04 Summer Tour�, which will feature music from The Beatles, Wings and McCartney’s solo career, is currently set to play to nearly 700,000, which would bring to more then 3 million, who have seen McCartney since his return to the road in April 2002.

Among many of the highlights of “04 Summer Tour� are sure to be Macca’s return to Russia, for a special performance in St. Petersburg’s Palace Square, as well as his first-time visits to Lisbon, Leipzig, Prague and Horsens before closing out the all-stadium tour with a special appearance at The Glastonbury Festival.

In addition, Macca is looking forward to performances in Madrid, Gothenburg, Zurich, Oslo and Helsinki, cities that haven’t seen him in more then a decade. A return to Paris is also planned for Thursday, June 24th, where McCartney’s critically hailed “Back In The World� Tour began last March.

George Harrison reissues announced for U.S.

Capitol Record today (Thursday) officially announced the forthcoming release in the U.S. market of the George Harrison reissues we've been talking about on the site. The release date for both the individual albums and "The Dark Horse Years" boxed set is Feb. 24.

ORIGINAL ALBUMS DIGITALLY REMASTERED, WITH BONUS TRACKS AND EXPANDED BOOKLETS

On February 24, 2004, Capitol Records will release the newly acquired George Harrison “Dark Horse� catalogue, making available six albums which have been unavailable for years. A brand new deluxe box set, with an exclusive DVD, will also be available.

Each of the original 6 albums, spanning the ‘70’s, ‘80’s and ‘90’s, has been digitally re-mastered and now contain previously unavailable bonus tracks, with 12-page booklets, including lyrics and unseen photographs (bonus tracks were not available for the “Live In Japan� double album so this will be issued as a double SACD hybrid in both stereo and 5.1 surround sound).

Each of the above albums is available individually and as part of the very special boxed set, “The Dark Horse Years, 1976 – 1992�.

Comprising all the above 6 CDs plus a DVD, the box also includes a casebound,
36-page booklet with extensive liner notes by David Fricke, accompanied by unseen photographs, illustrations and press cuttings. Olivia Harrison has contributed a short history of Dark Horse records, and further notes about the Dark Horse logo.

The DVD runs in excess of 75 minutes, and is in four sections; highlights are archive footage of George talking about his solo career, seven promo videos with George discussing each track, four live songs from George’s 1991 Japanese tour with Eric Clapton( all footage previously unreleased), and excerpts from “Shanghai Surprise� featuring George in performance.

The sound throughout the DVD is stereo, except the concert pieces which are 5.1 surround sound.

Cloud Nine

Released in 1987, this was George’s most successful solo album since ‘All Things Must Pass’.

It featured three singles: ‘Got My Mind Set On You’, ‘When We Was Fab’ and ‘This Is Love’.

The album includes performances by co-producer Jeff Lynne, Eric Clapton, Elton John, Ringo Starr, Gary Wright etc.

Now features notes by George himself, taken from extracts of his own book ‘I Me Mine’.

Live In Japan

Recorded during George’s Japanese concerts in 1991, this double set features many classic songs from both his time with The Beatles and as a solo artist.

Supported by a great band including Eric Clapton, Andy Fairweather Low and Chuck Leavell, this double album is presented in both stereo and 5.1 surround sound on SACD hybrid discs.

Now features notes by George himself, taken from extracts of his own book ‘I Me Mine’.
